I first saw Dergin Tokmak perform in March of 2004. As I watched I was overwhelmed with his athleticism and grace on the crutches. For months afterwards I found myself telling everyone who would listen about this amazing man. I searched for more information about him, always disappointed at how little was available. So I asked Dergin if he would meet with me... and allow me to create this website.
Thank you to everyone who has sent pictures and notes of encouragement, especially Marijke Von Rheenan, Cheri Haight and Bill Shannon. And thanks most of all to Dergin for the incredible gift he gives to us with his dancing.
As you probably know if you follow things Cirque, Dergin has been gone from Varekai for some time now. He has begun to train again and hopes to return to the show. Your encouragement would be welcome as he recovers and again prepares for the rigors of the tour. We would love to hear about your own experience in seeing Dergin perform... or whatever other kind words you would care to offer.
And Happy Birthday, Dergin!

Happy Birthday Dergin! I have just seen Varekai live for the first time, actually first 4 times...I keep going back. I was disappointed that you were not in the show because you do an awesome job. So graceful! I was glad to see that hopefully you will be returning to the show! Have a great New Year!

Happy Birthday (sorry I'm a few days off). Man I remember hanging out with you when you premiered in Costa Mesa, CA. You are such a sweet guy. I loved watching you on stage and dancing at the after show parties. I also enjoyed seeing you at Javier's parties. Thanks for always being so sweet to me and taking pictures with me (which I love to look back on). Hope you had a wonderful b-day. If you and the Santos Bros. or anyone else ever come back to SoCal we should chill out again. Stay sweet!

I saw Dergin twice in Houston, and his act was my favorite. Of all the acts in Varekai, I remember Dergin's best. I hope Dergin returns to Varekai someday.
Happy birthday, Dergin!

Dergin has been in inspiration to me, not only because he was a part of Varekai, but because of his dancing. I have always wanted to be a part of the cirque in someway, and i have always wanted to be able to dance but i have so many problems in my life it seems like a dream that will never become reality. I always felt as if it could never happen, then i saw Dergin. The way he over came the polio and any other problems and did what he wanted to and didnt let things stop him was enough to make me want to cry. After learning more about him i feel like no matter what happens i will be able to make it to the cirque, he is SUCH an inspiration to me. I thank Dergin for his wonderful work, he is truly amazing.
